Heating and AC service in Birmingham neighborhoods

From the postwar ranches near our base to the century-old houses on the slopes of Red Mountain, every Birmingham neighborhood brings its own heating and cooling puzzles.

Quick answer

We cover all of Birmingham. These 18 neighborhoods are where we work most: Kingston, Crestwood, Crestline, Woodlawn, East Lake, South East Lake, Roebuck, Huffman and East Pinson Valley on the east side, Avondale, Forest Park, Highland Park, Redmont Park and Glen Iris toward the south, and Norwood, Bush Hills, Ensley and Pratt City to the north and west.

East side

Postwar ranches close to our base

Kingston is our own neighborhood, and Crestwood, Woodlawn, East Lake, South East Lake, Roebuck and Huffman sit close to our base on 15th Avenue North. Crestline, on the Mountain Brook line, has established family homes that have been expanded over the years. Much of the housing here is brick ranches from the 1940s through the 1970s, with ducts in the attic or a crawlspace and plenty of systems on their second or third outdoor unit. Duct leaks, clogged attic drains and aging heat pumps are the everyday work.

East Pinson Valley adds established subdivisions where heat pumps and gas furnaces are both common, so we see a steady mix of defrost problems, ignition faults and full replacements.

Older homes on and around Red Mountain

Avondale, Forest Park, Highland Park, Redmont Park and Glen Iris hold many of the city's oldest houses, some built before central air existed. Tall ceilings, plaster walls and little room for ducts make ductless systems, careful duct retrofits and old chimney venting for gas furnaces the main topics. Steep lots on Red Mountain also mean outdoor units on terraces and long line sets.

North and west

Historic districts and rebuilt streets

Norwood's big historic homes are being restored, often with new ductless or high-wall systems. Bush Hills has solid 1920s to 1940s houses where package units and crawlspace ducts are common. In Ensley many homes still lean on window units, and in Pratt City a large share of homes were rebuilt after the 2011 tornado, so their systems are now reaching replacement age.
